Mindful Drumming

Description: A person playing a drum

Susan Baron studied Mindful Drumming with Ghanaian master drummer Kokomon Clottey in Oakland, California. Kokomon describes Mindful Drumming as "an ancient wisdom for unleashing the human spirit and healing community." When two or more participants are present, the facilitator plays simple synchronized and repetitive rhythms on a hand drum such as a djembe. This repetition of synchronized rhythms creates a sense of joy and wellbeing. Evidence shows that when people drum together in sync, fear falls away and the rhythms ignite the brain receptors, which gives rise to the phenomenon of entrainment. Entrainment is the experience of feeling connected to one another. In this state, there exists the opportunity for coming together as a community.

CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle yet powerful technique that is effective in releasing neck pain, back pain, and mental stress (among other things). It does this by optimizing the movement of cerebrospinal fluid through the spine and around the skull. Developed by physician William Sutherland, this therapy provides a very soothing and relaxing healing experience.

Pediatric Massage Therapy for Infants and Children

Infant Massage is a style of bodywork designed specifically to promote the healthy development of your infant. Caring human touch is crucial for a healthy thriving baby, and the benefits of massaging your infant are potent and numerous. For example, many infants show improved growth and development of the brain and nervous system. Infant massage has also been shown to improve the quality of a baby's sleep, as well as strengthening their immune system.

Children will also enjoy and benefit greatly from massage therapy.  Massage increases an awareness of body and for many children, massage therapy increases their ability to develop an understanding of sensations in their muscles as well as the experiencing of soothing and calming anxiety in a pleasant, gentle way. Massage, bodywork, and energy balancing can increase their personal health, enjoyment of friends and family, help academic and sports performance, and in addition,  improve the quality of sleep.
